WLNS TV Michigan Masons honor ex-colleague Gerald Ford 03/01/2007 SAGINAW, Mich. Freemasons across the state are honoring the memory of one of their former colleagues, ex-President Gerald Ford. The grand master of the state's 335 Masonic lodges has told them to perform a brief memorial ceremony at their January meetings. They'll be putting a black drape over the altar and observing a moment of silence. Ford and his three half-brothers took their initiation into the fraternal organization at a lodge in Grand Rapids in 1949. At his death, he was a 33rd-degree Mason. Thirteen other presidents were Masons, including George Washington, Andrew Jackson, Theodore Roosevelt, Franklin Roosevelt and Harry Truman. ___ On the Net: Michigan Masons: http://www.gl-mi.org |
