Macarthur regions very own debutantes woo Masonic Lodges ball

Friday, 13 July 2012

THEY might be considered old-fashioned by some, but the Masonic Lodges of Districts 111 and 115 have never had any difficulty filling numbers for their biennial debutantes' ball. Another 13 young women made their "debuts" at the 2012 event on June 30 at Campbelltown RSL Club amidst a swirl of white silk, taffetta and lace. The debutantes and their partners were presented to Derek Robson AM, the Grand Master of the United Grand Lodge of NSW and the ACT. More than 300 people were on hand to share the formality and pageantry of the occasion. The Combined Lodges' Debutante Ball also wrapped up two years' of fundraising by the Masonelles, the wives and partners of the district's Freemasons, for a chosen charity. Ball committee secretary Noel Stevens said The Right Start Foundation, supporting children with Down syndrome in the Macarthur region, could expect more than $25,000 from the generosity and hard work of the Masonelles, the ball proceeds and a donation from masoniCare. Mr Stevens said the debutante ball was a good community event. "We've never been short of numbers in all the years I've been involved," he said. "The girls and boys always have a great time as well as the people who attend."
