Freemasons Victoria has announced that it will demolish Dallas Brooks Centre in East Melbourne and build apartments.
The charity organisation says that the large parcel of land is underdeveloped and, after failing to find a buyer, has engaged Mirvac to build a ten or eleven storey apartment block.
The Grand Master of Freemasons Victoria, Bob Jones, says the hall was originally built when the organisation had 100,000 members.
Mr Jones says it will remain the Freemasons' head quarters.
"We'll have new, state-of-the art Masonic facilities," he said.
"The development will be very sympathetic to the East Melbourne environment and exactly built at a standard that we think as Freemasons we should maintain in the area."
