Bay City Tribune Masons level cornerstone By Mike Reddell December 30, 2006 The Grand Lodge of Texas formally leveled the cornerstone for the Matagorda County Sheriff’s Office in a ceremony Wednesday that included members of all four Matagorda County Masonic lodges. Wearing Freemasonry’s distinctive white aprons, about 50 Matagorda County Masons watched Texas Grand Master Donny Broughton perform a leveling ritual similar to the one George Washington conducted on the cornerstone of the U.S. Capitol in 1793 and many others since then — nationwide and throughout Texas. |
