Corsica Freemasons and Nationalists
Sept. 15, 2013
It is undoubtedly a simple coincidence, but we will note that the awakening of Freemasonry in Corsica is at the beginning of the 70s, when the nationalist phenomenon begins to emerge.
Was there an attempt to reconcile right away? Nothing is less certain and it will be necessary to wait until after Aleria for contacts to be established, first of all in Haute-Corse. Jackie Lucchini reveals, in an issue of Kyrn, devoted to Freemasonry, that an ARC militant, Ange-Marie Renucci, also a Freemason, undertakes a tour of France of the lodges of the Grand Orient of France to expose the Corsican problem there, while the Star of Cyrnos, the first lodge of the GODF in Corsica, impulses a new dynamic and invests in the fight against repression.
It is well known that the island Freemasons and more particularly the Bastiais of the Star of Cyrnos, go to war against the Court of State Security, this exceptional jurisdiction so decried by the nationalists who will have to suffer the wrath of it. During this time contacts multiplied between island lodges and nationalist movements and it is not excluded that the Freemasons took ideas from the supporters of the "Autre Corse" to work on the project of special status, of which we have said that it was their work, even if they had denied it, ensuring that there were socialist militants at its origin.
Yes, but it is no secret that the masons had in the conception of the first special status, that from which the assembly of Corsica was created, an essential part. The Order has worked a lot on the project, as it has done on the major files of this end of the century and in particular those of the Code of Nationality, Computers, audiovisual, the law Weil on voluntary termination of pregnancy. The Order continues to work on the Corsican problem, looking for solutions, which could be acceptable both for the nationalists and for all those who are not. So he continues to weave links with the representatives of the different components of the nationalist family. We know, however, that he is reluctant to stand up for independence. He believes, in fact, that Corsica is not ready to take the leap into the unknown and that its maintenance as a whole in France is the only guarantee of its future prosperity.
