Last August, after the sarin attack on the Damascus suburb of Ghouta, he was ready to launch an allied air strike, this time to punish the Syrian government for allegedly crossing the ‘red line’ he had set in 2012 on the use of chemical weapons.

Normally when a country’s people give a referendum vote that the EU doesn’t like, they are just told to vote again to put it right. In the case of Crimea, however, where 96 per cent of the people voted to return to Russia, the EU was in no position to ask them to think again.

“Late Show” host David Letterman announced his plans to retire “sometime next year,” he said Thursday.
The 66-year-old comedian, who began his late-night career in 1982 when he became the NBC “Late Night” franchise’s first host, made the announcement during a taping of Thursday night’s show.
